Generation 2.0 stands for a globalised society with world-wide networks. Our lives are spread out. Life is split into categories. Leisure, work, love, friendship - all at different places. Berlin, London, Paris - three cities - three identities - one feeling - trust and belonging.

Begging the question: When, where, how does a place feel like home? Where do we find that feeling of trust and belonging, in a world in which communication has moved to the digital and virtual sphere?

The collection “Near & Far” represents a conflict in which clothing functions as a haptic means of communication. The longing for care, belonging, intimacy, as well as protection and security are visualised by the specific handling of fabric- and pattern design.

A collection inspired by the idea that feelings and emotions are the keys to transform clothing into fashion.

Humans move through the development of their communication structure, which is influenced by digital media, more and more in a virtual space. A feeling of acceleration and immensity. Distances become blurred. Change is secure - the life in a sphere without place! A Life in transition! Different places, distant love, following the great passion every time. The pure curiosity of the unknown distance and the thirst for progress must face the yearning for security, trust and simplicity. Departure and return, two actions connected to strong feelings. Begging the question: When, how and where does a place feel like home? Where to find the feeling of security and trust in a time, where communication more and more takes place in a digital and virtual way? Have humans lost their feelings and gotten out of touch? Can clothing or rather fashion arouse the emotional states of security, closeness and comfort? Clothing – as composition of different material, which enclose the largest human sensory organ – the skin. Clothing as a second skin. Tactile contact - a feeling that loses more and more its persistence because of the lifestyle in our society. Clothing as the medium of touch. The modern form of communication is dominated by technical media. Digital devices create the illusion of closeness. A closeness in which three of the five human senses stay unsatisfied. Our perception is reduced to seeing and hearing only. The sensory and tactile senses fade into the background. We capture a reality, but we cannot really feel or face it. The collection “Near & Far” represents an examination in which the clothing serves as a haptic medium of communication. It is inspired by the yearning for security and trust as well as for protection and affiliation. Essential factors which lose more and more of their importance in our modern lifestyle. Expressing one’s feelings is often seen as a weakness. Body contact or touch is mainly associated with sensuality. The collection should be seen as an analysis of the emotional states and yearnings of our modern society. 1. belonging and comfort, 2. Safety and 3. Trust are shown by specific designs.
